Synopsis

Creative new approaches that bring together government, industry, and the education sectors are key to the health of the space workforce in the long term. This paper discusses the critical need for continued public-private partnerships and investment in space-related STEM education; the need for leaders from all space sectors to champion STEM education while expanding and diversifying opportunities; the role of non-degree, non-STEM training in the space sector; and the need for a truly national strategy that includes a centralized index of space-specific STEM education initiatives. Leaders must think now about tomorrow’s U.S. space workforce. Strategic investments in STEM education today will lead to a stronger space workforce 25 years from now.
