Michelle Herman
Michelle R. Herman is a senior project engineer for Strategic Foresight in the Center for Space Policy and Strategy at The Aerospace Corporation. In this role, Herman leverages her extensive U.S. Intelligence Community experience and expertise on global space issues to identify trends and future challenges, provide international context, and develop scenarios for exploring U.S. policy.
Prior to joining Aerospace, Herman spent almost 21 years at various organizations within the U.S. Intelligence Community, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Intelligence Council, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. During her government career, she applied multidisciplinary intelligence methodologies, led diverse teams, collaborated across the Intelligence Community, and facilitated substantive and strategic planning discussions across multiple organizations.
Herman was the Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Space from 2018 to 2021, where she was the author of the space section of the Global Trends 2040 report. She has also been a guest lecturer at the National Intelligence University.
Herman graduated summa cum laude from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a minor in economics. She earned a master’s degree in management from the University of Phoenix and completed an Intelligence Community certification for data science focused on social network analysis.
For her service as an intelligence analyst on global and commercial space issues, Herman has received numerous Exceptional Performance Awards and several Meritorious Unit Citations.
