Event details

As increasingly large numbers of satellites make use of the Low Earth Orbit environment, it is critical that satellites are designed and operated in ways that enable the continued use of space as an operational environment and mitigate potential impacts to other stakeholders. The Aerospace Corporation recently convened a group of commercial satellite operators to discuss possible metrics to measure and manage orbital congestion. The work characterized potential benefits, drawbacks, and nuances associated with various potential metrics for measuring orbital congestion. This panel will describe the findings of the work, share operator knowledge and expertise, and discuss the pathway towards developing consensus around a shared technically-informed, quantitative understanding of how to manage orbital congestion. The event is complimentary and will be held virtually.
